Have you seen all of the emails about this great new way to get Google Adwords for free? The emails start out talking about how some guy made over 300 million dollars from 87 million dollars in free Google ads.
Who wouldn’t buy a $67 report with that kind of headline? Especially since many of us spend not only hundreds, but thousands of dollars a month with Google.
Several people are advertising this program under such keyword phrases as:
Here we have an email and pay per click campaign which seems like all the “top” internet marketers are sending out. The email is well crafted and leads to a landing page full of testimonials, screen shots, and even a picture of a multi-million dollar mansion.
Now if the mansion doesn’t throw up a red flag (considering that all of the get rich quick infomercials use such tactics) then the following phrase should.
“Imagine living in this home just like I do!”
Nice play on words. It sounds like he lives in this home… or does he simply imagine living in the home too? Read it again.
Hilarious! But I don’t doubt that many of the get-rich-quick Internet marketing “experts” live in luxury homes. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve met a rare few that are simply brilliant, but most of the so-called experts are simply repeating the same old stuff that’s been around for 10 to even the last 100 years.
Oh and the testimonials for the Free Google Ads? They’re all done with a cute Polaroid style photo next to them. It just so happens that everybody in the photos just happens to be just as cute. Come on… you can’t tell me that all of your testimonials come from good looking “tall-dark-and-handsome” men or “cute and petite” young ladies.
But let’s get back to Google Ads for free. Can it be done? YES! Can it be done like this guy claims? Well I guess it’s in how you look at it. His entire Free Google Ads “system” is based on the assumption that you want to drive visitors to a landing page, or in this case a “squeeze” page.
A squeeze page is a page specifically designed to capture the name, email address and likely a phone number of someone who is interested in your product or service. Typically a squeeze page will have a great headline and paragraph and a few bullet points about what is available once you provide this information.
I don’t use squeeze pages, but I know that they can be very effective. Visitors to the page have the choice of either hitting the back button or completing just a couple of fields of information. If the headline and the description of what they’re about to receive is compelling enough, then a significant percentage of them will go forward in the buying process.
However, the “system” that this guy offers actually circumvents this process. The reason why “squeeze” pages work so well is because you have no choice. You either complete the form or you leave. His example of this system shows that you need to sell ads all across the top, bottom and left side of your squeeze page, and that the sales of these ads will supplement the cost of your advertising expense. Thus your ads are “free.”
Free? Never mind the countless hours you have to spend trying to recruit people to buy advertising on this page. Never mind the fact that when people come to your squeeze page, that they’re more likely to click on any one of twenty ads than they are to fill out your form. But wait… I know what you’re thinking. What if we just put Google Adsense on the squeeze page? Won’t Google sell the ads for me?
Well yeah they will. This is called Adsense Arbitrage, or quite simply referred to as “Made for Adsense” websites. In most cases MFA sites look somewhat like search engine results. So people are visiting Google, clicking an ad that goes to what often looks like another set of search results, and on and on the clicking continues.
Unfortunately for the people who annoy the rest of us with this type of site, Google has caught on and as of June 1st, 2007 they have started to terminate sites with “Poor Quality” content.
They have a secret weapon too. With the conversion tools in Google Adwords, Google can now see which ads are converting and likewise, which advertisers have ads that never convert.
There are several bloggers talking about this latest change with Google.
GET FREE GOOGLE ADS
So Tony, how can we really get Google Adwords for free?
Ah, I know you’ve been waiting. As you know, Free usually comes with a catch, but there are a few ways.
1: Join the Google Advertising Professionals Program
2: You will want to become “Qualified” individual or company.
Google gives out the $100 credits in batches of 5 to qualified professionals. It’s not hard at all, you just have to follow instructions.
You will have to manage enough accounts to have a $1000 spend within 90 days. Usually this is easy. If you’re not spending at least $500 a month, or you can not find a few accounts to manage that add up to $1000, then this is probably not for you anyway.
Once you have passed the test and are certified, you could start charging to manage other people’s accounts or simply do it for free in exchange for the free $100 credits that are applied to their accounts.
The new accounts that you set up are the ones that are eligible for the $100 credits. However, also note that they have to spend $100 within the first two weeks.
This shouldn’t be hard at all if you have legitimate businesses to promote. It’s EASY to spend $1000 a day at Google, believe me.
My strategy is this. You get $500 a month for free. You can either set up your own businesses, affiliates, products, ebooks, etc… or you can manage the “new” accounts of your friends, colleagues and charge them $100 (or more) with the caveat that they will receive $100 in credit for from Google for free.
If you’re good at this, it wouldn’t be hard to manage 60 accounts a year, and thus receive $6,000 in free advertising. Plus whatever you may want to charge others to manage their accounts.
At Xeal, we typically charge $500 setup plus 10% of the monthly spend. This is because we have several years of experience in finding great keywords, writing good ads, and getting the best bang for your buck with the ad spends. We also spend a great deal of time, educating our clients, tweaking ads, and of course keeping an eye on the competition.
However, if you’re simply “managing” ads that they have set up for you, and you don’t have to do any of the research or true daily management of the ads, then this is a no-brainer.
Even though you are set with the ability to log into their account and manage their accounts, they still have the ability to manage their accounts as if you weren’t even there. So it’s easy to just pull together like a co-op in order to get the free ads that way.
More Free Google Ads
Google has now launched a promotion for their “Audio Ads.” These audio ads are basically radio ads that run on Google’s network of radio stations that they have agreements with. This includes XM radio and the hundreds of Clear Channel radio stations nationwide.
From now until June 30th, 2007, Google is running a promotion where you can receive $400 in free credit if you use their Ad Creation Marketplace in order to produce your radio ads.
They say that they believe it will take about $400 for you to have an ad produced. We had one produced via the Ad Creation Marketplace for $30!
This Google offer expires soon. So read about it here.
What about YAHOO?
Well Yahoo too has a certified program for people they call “Ambassadors.” From what I’ve read you can get $20 per new account plus “promotional credits” for your new customers. Xeal is a Yahoo ambassador, but we just don’t have as many clients who are interested in Yahoo as those who are interested in Google.
What About MSN?
Well you can find a $50 promotional credit for MSN Ad Center just about anywhere. From my experience though, it will take a while to get through those credits. Nobody seems to have the quantity and quality of traffic offered through Google.
All in all it’s much more likely that you can manage multiple Google Adwords accounts and get a few thousand dollars in free advertising versus selling a bunch of banner ads on your squeeze page site.
Plus, you don't have to pay me $67 for this information.
